Rolex Day-Date 128238 with FINX protection film

Rolex Day-Date Protection Film: Protecting Gold, Platinum and the President Bracelet

The Day-Date is made only in precious metal, and that changes the wear equation completely. Gold and platinum are softer than Oystersteel, they mark more easily, and every service polish removes material that cannot be replaced.

Why gold behaves differently

  • It is softer. A contact that leaves nothing on steel can leave a visible line on 18k gold.
  • Polishing costs more. Each refinish thins the case and rounds the crisp edges of the lugs and bezel.
  • Fluted bezels are unforgiving. Once the flutes lose their sharpness, the watch looks soft even from a distance.
  • Rose gold shows wear patterns. Long contact with sweat and cosmetics can dull the surface over time.

The President bracelet

Semi-circular three-piece links look seamless, but they have a lot of internal contact area. As the pins and link holes wear, the bracelet loosens and starts to rattle, and the polished sides pick up hairlines from desks and cuffs. A replacement gold President bracelet is one of the most expensive parts in the catalogue, so protecting it is the cheapest insurance there is.

Diamond-set and pavé versions

Gem-set bezels, dials and bracelets need patterns that follow the settings precisely so the film never sits over a stone or lifts at a prong. These kits are cut per reference rather than adapted from a plain version.

Care habits for precious metal

  • Remove the watch before applying sunscreen or perfume, and wipe it down at the end of the day.
  • Never wear a gold bracelet on the same wrist as the watch.
  • Have the bracelet checked at service intervals; early pin wear is fixable, advanced stretch is not.

FAQ

Can film be applied to a diamond bezel?

Film is cut around the setting, protecting the metal areas without covering stones.

Does film change the colour of rose gold?

No. The film is optically clear and keeps the metal's tone and reflection.

My Day-Date is already polished. Is film still worth it?

Yes — it stops the next round of wear, which means the watch can go longer before another polish.

Which references do you cover?

See the Day-Date collection, or request a custom cut for older references.
